Why Use a Rope Halter?

Jun 27, 2009

Rope Halters Rope halters, used in conjunction with leads, are communication tools between you and your horse. Using pressure and release signals,  you can guide and direct your horse’s movements. These signals come directly through the lead rope to the halter, and can be done with an amazing level of subtlety. Communicating with your horse in this way can be very effective, as long as your rope halter fits correctly.

This is the biggest problem we see. People will purchase a rope halter or make one that doesn’t fit right. In a later post, I will talk about how we at Hippie Halters create custom made rope halters that are measured specifically to your horse’s face and head, thereby ensuring a perfect fit every time. We provide specific instructions to measure your horse properly when you purchase a rope halter from our website.

The rope halter came about years ago when horseman in need of horse gear discovered how to tie a few well-placed knots in a single length of rope to create a simple, useful, and effective halter. In fact, people that use rope halters have come to love them because they are able to communicate with their horses on a more natural and intimate level.

I have been making custom rope halters for friends and family for some time now. It has turned into a full fledged business that I thoroughly enjoy.
